Tingdene Marinas’ ‘Clean Marina’ Sustainability Success

Tingdene’s Racecourse Marina Windsor is awarded TYHA ‘Clean Marina’ status.

Tingdene Marinas is proud to announce that Racecourse Marina Windsor has been awarded The Yacht Harbour Association’s (TYHA) prestigious Clean Marina accreditation, making it the first marina on the River Thames to receive this esteemed recognition for environmental excellence.

Achieved on 28th March 2025, this milestone highlights Tingdene Marinas’ commitment to sustainable marina operations, setting a benchmark for inland waterways and reinforcing the importance of environmental responsibility within the marine industry.

Clean Marinas Initiative

The concept for cleaner marinas has been designed by TYHA to encourage the marine world to recognise the importance of doing all they can to ensure marina operations do not pollute coastal and inland waters.

The initial focus was to help marinas get back to basics and get them right first. This included the following:

• Blackwater capture and treatment
• Correctly managing segregated and hazardous waste
• Spill prevention and treatment
• Washdown capture and filtration
• Drain interception
• Use of sustainable products
• Plastic pollution prevention
• Influencing tenants, contractors and boaters to be more sustainable

Jon White, TYHA General Manager is delighted to see marinas striving hard to meet and exceed the expectations on protecting UK waters, commenting: “Tingdene Marinas and their team at Racecourse Marina deserve a huge congratulations on their hard work and efforts in achieving the TYHA Clean Marina Accreditation.”

Richard Birch, Tingdene Marina’s Senior Operations Manager outlines the work Racecourse Marina have achieved to attain the award, “This achievement is the result of months of dedicated work by the Racecourse Marina team. From refining emergency procedures to improving waste management and engaging visitors in sustainable practices, we have examined every aspect of our operations to ensure compliance with Clean Marina standards. I want to personally thank Mark Pearce, General Manager, and the entire marina team for their tireless efforts in meeting the requirements.”

An Industry-Wide Challenge

Introducing more sustainability is something that affects the entire marine industry in the same way. The ‘Clean Marina’ programme is something we can all unite in together and share learnings across the industry to help ensure we are all striving towards the protection of our oceans and waterways. This is what is at the heart of the Clean Marina movement. Sharing best practice, knowledge and expertise with all types of businesses with the marine world to make sure our waters are as clean as possible. Without usable water, there would be no marinas after all.
