A Farewell to Stourport Marina’s Mal Sargent

15 October 2024

Mal Sargent is set to retire from his role as Marina Manager at Stourport Marina on 25th October.

After an impressive 16 and a half years as Marina Manager at Stourport Marina, Mal Sargent is set to retire on 25th October—coincidentally, his birthday! While we are sad to see him go, we are certain that Mal’s retirement will be as fulfilling and memorable as his time at the marina.

Mal has been a cornerstone of the Tingdene Marina team, known for his warm smile, extensive boating knowledge, and unwavering dedication to helping others. As a keen boater himself, Mal has always been the go-to person for advice, generously assisting berth holders and ensuring that everyone felt supported and safe on the water. Over the years, he gained a well-earned reputation as the “river level guru,” particularly when it came to managing the challenges of the River Severn. His expertise in handling flooding has been nothing short of remarkable. Mal worked tirelessly to safeguard the marina and its community, going above and beyond in last winter’s flooding to implement lasting solutions—raising switchgear boxes, installing flood anchors, and extending river pontoon piles. Thanks to his efforts, Stourport Marina is now better equipped to handle future floods.

Beyond his technical skills, Mal has also played a key role in fostering the marina’s community spirit. Since the acquisition in 2020, he’s been instrumental in supporting the success of ‘The Quayside,’ the onsite restaurant, guiding its tenants through a tricky COVID-era start to the thriving business it is today.

It’s impossible to express just how much Mal has meant to us at Tingdene Marinas and Boat Sales. His leadership, kindness, and commitment will be deeply missed, but we are excited for him to enjoy some well-deserved downtime in his retirement.

David Lingard, who has worked alongside Mal for almost four years, will be stepping into the role of Marina Manager. With his own wealth of boating knowledge and experience at Stourport, David is well-prepared to carry on Mal’s legacy of excellence.

From all of us at Tingdene Marinas & Boat Sales, we send a heartfelt thank you to Mal for his many years of hard work, and wish both him and David all the very best for the future.
