Boat Details

The Broom 29cl is the result of research showing that many Broom owners begin their boating on inland waterways, progressing to sea in easy stages. With this design criteria foremost, Broom set about building a range specially designed for the transition from river to coast. The 29cl is a medium-powered displacement cruiser ideally suited to the inland waterways of Europe but with the capability to go estuary cruising. The large keel and rudder provide excellent handling qualities. Designed by Andrew Wolstenholme, the 29 has a large open cockpit with wrap-around seating, fold-down windscreens, an easy-to-operate hood in two sections, and a hinged mast. The air draught of the 29 is only 6 feet, 6 inches (1.98 meters) when everything is down, thus allowing the boat to pass under the lowest bridges.

EXTERIOR

The Broom 29 features safe side decks encompassing the entire boat which on this model are covered in solid teak all of which has been teak treated in 2015. The decks are surrounded by sturdy stainless steel railings which form into the pulpit and give excellent safety to the exterior. A moulded full width bathing platform aft again with teak covering gives easy access to the shore and to the decks and features a door to the cockpit. The cockpit being covered by a two section canopy attached to a folding GRP mast and forward of this featuring a 5 section windscreen which folds allowing for navigation beneath the lowest of bridges. The forward deck can be used for seating and the cabin roof is fitted with an escape hatch and fixed ventilators. A height marker is fitted to the pulpit and a Lofrans manual anchor which is sited on the forward deck. The Cockpit features moulded seating for 5 with comfort and a further helm and co-pilot seat are fitted forward. Beneath all seating are storage lockers and the gas locker with a large lazarette locker aft below the cockpit floor. Engine access is by a hatch at the forward of the cockpit. The entire cockpit is well protected from the elements by the coamings and offers excellent lounging area for this warm days afloat. A large sliding door leads to the cabin.

INTERIOR FROM THE BOW

FORWARD CABIN

The main cabin of the 29 features an Island double berth sited across the cabin with the headboard to port. Adjacent to the bed aft to port is a large vanity unit with storage, a mirror drawer and cupboards with plenty of top surface. To starboard a ¾ height wardrobe and below the berth are two drawers. Further long term storage is below the berth cushion. The berth is surrounded by a large shelf, bedside lights are fitted to both sides of the berth and the cabin benefits from excellent natural light from the three windows and overhead hatch. For a craft of only 29’ this cabin is larger than found on many a 40’ vessel.

FORWARD HEADS/SHOWER

Located to the port side on the same floor level as the galley and saloon, the toilet room is fitted out in a moulded design to ensure easily cleaned. Fitted with a washbasin, toilet to waste tank, window, mirror, shave aid power unit and storage place for the main saloon table.

GALLEY

Located amidships, to port, with the sink, oven, hob, fridge and worktop with 5 storage cupboards of a L shape design making maximum use of the space and not taking over the saloon area.

SALOON

The central saloon on the 29 features a L shaped sofa to starboard with storage and shelving aft. The sofa converts to a double berth of good proportions and a hexagonal coffee table or a full sized dining table are included seating for 4 with ease for dining
